An alarming case in Queens Village has placed a New York City neighborhood on high alert. On a recent morning, a 9-year-old girl was reportedly pulled into a driveway near 217th Street and 110th Avenue, where a suspect attempted to sexually assault her. The man fled when a bystander intervened, leaving the young girl traumatized and prompting an urgent police investigation.
Surveillance footage released by the NYPD shows images of the suspect, and the public has been asked to assist in identifying him. Although the child sustained only minor physical injuries, the psychological toll of such trauma is immeasurable and long-lasting. The attacker remains at large as law enforcement continues its search.
What makes this case particularly chilling is the brazenness of the act. It occurred in a residential area during daylight, demonstrating the audacity of perpetrators and the vulnerability of children even in what many consider "safe" neighborhoods.
At Survivors of Abuse NY, we understand that the impact of child sexual abuse is not confined to the physical act itself. Survivors—especially young children—often carry emotional wounds that require years of care and healing. While the criminal justice system works to bring offenders to account, survivors and their families can pursue justice through civil litigation as well.
Filing a civil claim can offer several benefits. It can provide financial compensation for medical bills, therapy, and other essential recovery services. More importantly, it can hold not just the perpetrator but also other negligent parties—such as landlords, schools, or institutions—accountable if they failed in their duty to protect the victim.
Thomas Giuffra, Esq., managing attorney at Survivors of Abuse NY, had this to say in response to the recent events in Queens Village:
"No child should ever endure the fear and trauma that this brave 9-year-old experienced. We call on the community to remain vigilant and supportive—not only in helping identify the suspect but also in standing with survivors as they seek justice.
