Actor Known for “Bubbles” Role Faces Serious Allegations Dating Back to 2017

“Trailer Park Boys” actor Mike Smith, best known for portraying the eccentric and beloved character “Bubbles” in the long-running Canadian mockumentary series, has been charged with sexual assault in Nova Scotia. The 53-year-old performer, who has been a key figure in the show since its inception in 2001, is now facing public scrutiny and legal consequences following an alleged attack that occurred nearly eight years ago.

According to court filings reported by the CBC, Smith was charged on October 2, 2025, in Nova Scotia Provincial Court, for an alleged sexual assault that took place in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, on December 30, 2017. The actor appeared in court to face the charge and was ordered not to contact the alleged victim or visit her home, workplace, or school.

In a statement to the CBC, Trailer Park Boys Inc., the company that produces the hit series, confirmed awareness of the allegations and emphasized respect for the judicial process:

“We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously. We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case.”

Production Company Confirms Smith’s Temporary Departure

Following the charge, Smith has stepped away from his position as managing director at Trailer Park Boys Inc., the company that manages the franchise, brand, and media productions tied to the show.

Smith, along with co-stars Robb Wells and John Paul Tremblay, purchased the rights to the Trailer Park Boys franchise in 2013. Despite the controversy, the company announced that there are no current plans to delay or cancel the show’s upcoming 13th season, which recently finished filming and is slated for release on Netflix in 2026 — coinciding with the show’s 25th anniversary.

A representative for the production company stated that their focus remains on delivering the new season to fans but reaffirmed that they take allegations of this nature “very seriously.”

Past Legal Troubles Surface Amid New Allegations

This is not the first time Smith has faced allegations of violence. In 2016, he was arrested in Los Angeles on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge after an altercation with a woman at the Hotel Roosevelt. Witnesses claimed to have heard the woman yelling, “You’re choking me,” before police were called. Smith was reportedly seen pinning the woman against a wall before fleeing the scene.

He was later arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department, but the case was dismissed due to a lack of sufficient evidence.

Although the charges were dropped, the incident resurfaced in light of the current sexual assault case, raising renewed questions about patterns of alleged violent behavior and accountability for high-profile individuals in the entertainment industry.

The Ongoing Legal Process and Broader Implications

Smith is expected to appear in court on Monday to face the new sexual assault charge. Details about the alleged assault remain limited, and prosecutors have not disclosed additional evidence at this time. The case is likely to draw significant media attention, given Smith’s long-standing fame and the enduring popularity of Trailer Park Boys, which developed a cult following across North America.

While the case remains in the early stages, advocacy groups stress the importance of centering survivors in conversations about sexual assault — particularly when allegations involve celebrities. Legal experts note that such cases highlight the power dynamics that often silence victims and the importance of due process in ensuring justice.

Standing with Survivors of Sexual Assault

Sexual assault cases — whether they involve public figures or private individuals — represent profound violations that can leave lasting trauma. Survivors often face intense emotional, social, and legal challenges when deciding to come forward. In many cases, justice can take years to pursue, especially when incidents are historic or involve powerful individuals.

Organizations and law firms that specialize in representing sexual assault survivors stress that coming forward is an act of courage. Legal support and trauma-informed advocacy can make a crucial difference in helping survivors navigate the complexities of the justice system while protecting their privacy and emotional well-being.
