A substitute teacher at Peekskill High School has been arrested on serious charges related to child sexual abuse material, raising concerns about the effectiveness of current safeguarding measures within educational institutions.
On May 30, 2025, 28-year-old Brian Mishk of Yorktown Heights was arrested by investigators from the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. He faces felony charges for promoting and possessing obscene sexual performances by a child. The arrest was announced by District Attorney Susan Cacace, who emphasized the gravity of the allegations, especially given Mishk's role in education.
Mishk was arraigned in the Town of Cortlandt Court and is currently held on bail. He is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on June 5.
Peekskill City School District Superintendent Dr. David Mauricio confirmed that Mishk had been employed as a substitute teacher at Peekskill High School. District records indicate that Mishk was cleared for employment through standard background checks and fingerprinting, in accordance with New York State Education Department regulations.
In a statement to families, Dr. Mauricio assured the community that there is no indication any Peekskill students were involved in the alleged activities. He also noted that Mishk has been directed to stay off district property and has had all district communication privileges revoked. Additional clinical support will be available at the high school to assist students and staff during this time.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern of cases involving individuals in positions of trust within educational settings. District Attorney Cacace highlighted that this is the third such case her office has handled recently, underscoring the need for vigilance and robust safeguarding policies in schools.
The case is being investigated by the Westchester County DA’s High Technology Crime Squad and prosecuted by Cyber Crimes Bureau Chief Michael Delohery. Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact the DA’s Office at (914) 995-TIPS.
